This documentary short, directed by Brennan Vance, was completed in 2024, and was funded by a HRSA grant as part of the Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) at the University of Minnesota. It showcases the incredible work provided by several direct service professionals (DSP’s) caring for Dan, a 74-year-old artist with cerebral palsy.
It premiered at the 44th annual Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival (MSPIFF) on April 11, 2025, where it won both the Jury and Audience Choice Awards for Best Documentary Short. It also won an Upper Midwest Regional Emmy Award in 2025.
Hippocrates Cafe Productions (HCP) grew out of a live, inspired-by-radio show that ran from 2009 to 2020. It explored complex health topics through story and song, using professional actors and musicians. With the onset of the pandemic, it morphed into a television show ("Reflections on the Pandemic"), produced with TPT PBS, and HCP was born.
