About

Hippocrates Cafe Productions (HCP) was created by Dr. Jon Hallberg, a professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota Medical School where he is also the creative director of the Center for the Art of Medicine (CFAM).

Jon maintains a busy practice at the M Physicians Mill City Clinic in Minneapolis where he cares for a panel of nearly 1,000 patients, some of whom he’s known for nearly 30 years. Jon’s entire medical career has been built around two complimentary passions: clinical care and the arts. Embodying the art of medicine has been a deeply personal mission for him, and Hippocrates Cafe Productions is a natural extension of this commitment.

Since 2020, Jon has produced four shows with Twin Cities Public Television (TPT PBS) (three of which won regional Emmy Awards), three Motionpoems films and one documentary short, “How to Care” (which won a 2025 regional Emmy Award) with four more films in various stages of production.

Hippocrates Cafe Productions (HCP) grew out of a live, inspired-by-radio show that ran from 2009 to 2020. It explored complex health topics through story and song, using professional actors and musicians. With the onset of the pandemic, it morphed into a television show ("Reflections on the Pandemic"), produced with TPT PBS, and HCP was born.
